About Me!

I grew up in Hardeman County in rural Tennessee. I grew up on 72 acres of land with horses, cows, chickens, ducks, and the occasional coyote. It did not take me long to decide that, although farming is a very respectable career, raising chickens was not for me. While growing up, I found books to be very cathartic. I still like to read. I take my Amazon Kindle any time I think I will have a spare chance to read!

I like technology. I am always interested in staying informed about new and inventive ways to involve technology into my classroom. From creating colorful, animated PowerPoints for my instruction to using iPods in the classroom to improve reading instruction, I know that using technology in my instruction helps keep students engaged and interested in the words coming out of my mouth.

I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee at Martin. I have a B.S. degree in education from UTM. While studying at UTM, I tutored theory of mathematics, biology, and anatomy and physiology.

I am currently enrolled in an online M.Ed. program at Middle Tennessee State University majoring in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in the education of English language learners. I will graduate the spring or summer or 2011. After obtaining my M.Ed.?... Who knows... maybe even a Ed.S. in curriculum and technology!

My first year of teaching was 2009-2010. I taught reading and language arts to 5th grade students. This year, I am teaching 7th grade mathematics. Whoa! What a change!
